Australia vs England, Ashes first Test Day 1 highlights:Rain brought an early day to the first day’s play after Pat Cummins took a five-wicket haul in his first match as Australia’s Test captain as England were bowled out for 147 in the opening Ashes Test. England’s second session started as badly as the first as Cummins sent back opener Haseeb Hameed with the tourists reeling at 60/5. Hameed and Pope had shown great fighting spirit to take England into lunch on Day 1 at 59/4. However, England kept losing wickets at regular intervals before folding for 147. Earlier, England captain Joe Root won the toss and decided to bat at the Gabba in Brisbane, but the tourists got off to the worst possible start as Mitchell Starc clean bowled Rory Burns for a first-ball duck. Josh Hazlewood gave the hosts the second breakthrough by sending back number 3 Dawid Malan and shocked the English fans by sending back captain Root for a duck. Cummins also joined the party as he sent back the dangerous Ben Stokes to give Australia its fourth wicket with just 29 runs on board.
